ブナ材クレオソート Beechwood creosote によるハーブ療法
過去には、らい病、肺炎、結核の民間療法(飲、食)として使用されたこともあるそうです。日本では今なお、消毒薬や去痰薬として知られており、止瀉 (止痢)剤として利用されることもあるようですが、USAではドクターが使用することはまれで、商品として販売されてもいません。
木クレオソート wood creosote は (1) 低木の葉の樹脂 "クレオソート・ブッシュ" creosote bush と (2) "ブナ材クレオソート" beechwood creosote に分類されます。
beechwood creosote の主成分は フェノール phenol, クレソール cresols, グアイヤコール guaiacol です (ATSDR ホームページから表などを引用しました)。木クレオソートは、発癌性物質であるコールタール クレオソート coal tar creosote とは化学的に異なり、混同しないようにすべきです。
Wood creosote (CAS no. 8021-39-4) is a mixture of simple phenolic compounds, including guaiacol and creosol and related compounds, and is chemically distinct from, and should not be confused with, coal tar creosote, a known carcinogen.
