ウズベキスタン共和国保健省の副大臣は、以前に報告された同国内のポリオウイルス感染症 [急性灰白髄炎]の発生例を否定した。
2010年初めからの急性弛緩性麻痺 (acute flaccid paralysis AFP)患者は 23人であるが、検査によりポリオとの関連性のある患者はいなかった。地域のWHO事務局はウズベキスタンのポリオ患者についての情報を広めなかったことを明確に示した。AFP全症例の原因は異なる疾患”エンティティ”であった。最近、同国に着任[?]したWHO専門家の国内での感染予防活動に感謝するとも語った。
野生型ポリオウイルスによって起こる AFPの発生は、同国に隣接するタジキスタン共和国領土内で登録された。170人中 12人は死亡した。32人 [ProMED-mail 20100502.1423 *]はポリオウイルス感染症と確認された。

AFP surveillance has been crucial in identification of polio cases. There are many causes of AFP, one of which is infection with a poliovirus.

An indicator of good AFP surveillance in a country is a non-polio annual AFP rate for children less than 15 years of age greater than or equal to one per 100 000 population. In 2008, the non-polio AFP rate for Uzbekistan was reported as 1.2 per 100 000 population (see

Uzbekistan had an estimated population of 27.6 million in July 2009, 28.1 per cent of which are under 14 years of age: to achieve a non-polio AFP rate of 1 or greater, one would expect at least 276 AFP cases reported during the course of the year.
